Mark Morford in another wonderful rant. Sure beats this ridiculous Weekly Standard piece. Air America's Mark Maron had a few choice words for Stephen Schwartz this morning.

Long Live Drugs And Politics / Hunter S. Thompson is dead. But what about his brand of raw, bloody, beautifully debauched journalism?

Distorting FDR: Bennett and Hume claimed father of Social Security system wanted privatization.

It is time for Brit Hume of FoxNews to resign!

He is not a journalist and should not be spewing distortions to America. This type of propaganda to promote Social Security privatization is indefensible and has not been seen since Germany in the 1940s. Hume falsely claimed that President Roosevelt advocated replacing Social Security with private accounts.

It is time for Hume to go!

Fear & Loathing in America

In light of recent tragedy, ESPN brings back a favorite Hunter S. Thompson essay.

HUNTER S. THOMPSON: Dead at 67

What a truly sad day. Our hero journalist and all time weird decided to end his life. In turn, we lose a great one. Hunter S. was the poet of our time, daring to strip reality to is lowest terms, and nevertheless, making the journey fun. His adage followed that of the Pranksters with their ‘Be Here Now’ mantra. He told it how it was - the necessary absurdity, the ridiculous interpretation of fantasy, the uncomfortable moments in life...

He taught me that life is about living and that democracy is not about peddling, but about personal pragmatisms. He made me realize how important being you truly is... how important it is to others. He understood the painful notions that nobody would want to deal with and made them work to his advantage. He uncovered the slime and threw out the trash. He understood the soul and its complexities, all of which religion or science will never explain. He was the man of the hour, the one in the shadows, the jester. Life was a circus, and he chose to live in it.

Here's to you Hunter S., see you on the other side...

Protester Throws Shoe at Richard Perle

How much will it cost you?

The Dems are beginning to show a united front. It is about time. The GOP will shoot itself in the foot if they contunie backing BushCo's interpretation of Social Security in "crisis." Let's keep up the fight!!

Fellow blogger at The Pickled Snout breaks down BushCo's 2nd term economic plan.

Joe Conason of the NY Observer comments that the Gannon saga is Proof that "the liberal media" is but a figment of right-wing mythology...

Original

"I'm still mystified by this story. I was rejected for a White House press pass at the start of the Bush administration, but someone with an alias, a tax evasion problem and Internet pictures where he posed like the 'Barberini Faun' is credentialed to cover a White House that won a second term by mining homophobia and preaching family values?" (NY Times - regt required)

WTG Maureen Dowd! This is a MUST READ. As some of you may know by now, James Guckert, aka Jeff Gannon, has become the center of a BushCo scandal, in which he posed a White House Press Corp "reporter" for some 2 years! Press Secretary Scott McClellan, who originally denied it, called him upon repeatedly. (Then, of course, the actual footage came out with him getting a softball question from the supposed credentialed journalist!) Now the plot thickens and the press is starting to pick up on it. It seems Mr. Gannon, or Mr. Guckert, has a past that just won't go away.

I find this quite the typical modus operandi from BushCo, so this charade doesn't surprise me. The real question is: why didn't the real reporters in the room find this out sooner? We all know journalists investigate each other. It is the nature of the beast. But, this situation makes you wonder what the hell is going on up there.

Dowd finishes off: "With the Bushies, if you're their friend, anything goes. If you're their critic, nothing goes... Even the Nixon White House didn't do anything this creepy. It's worse than hating the press. It's an attempt to reinvent it."

My sentiments exactly...

Reject Bush's Budget

Mob Blames Syria for Hariri Assassination

And so it begins. It feels like the powderkeg in Lebanon is starting to ignite. Note that the US is pulling its ambassador out. Is this a precursor excuse for US to put Syria next on its target list? It all seems suspiciously coincidental, but that could be the conspiracy factualist in me...

The Bomb that kills Former Lebanese Prime Minister is a jolting reminder of past violence.

Sad, sad day. With all that is happening in the Middle East these days, could this be a resurgence in the Lebanese civil war? Islamic militant groups are claiming responsibility because of Hariri's ties to the Saudi Royal family. Hmmmm...

"'Democrats created Social Security,' the House Democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi, said at a rally. 'Democrats defended it against Republican raids. And it will be Democrats who lead the way in strengthening Social Security for future generations.'" Indeed.

The heckling at the State of the Union has the Corporate Media spinning in high gear. Even the San Francisco Chronicle was uncharacteristically defending BushCo.

And in Tennessee, we expect as much from this opinion. But, the replies are what is important. When is the press in this country going to start speaking the opinions of its people? Opinion pages in this country are increasing being stolen by right-wing ideologues that throw out nothing but spin and don't do their jobs - critical analysis of policy - bad or good.

Democracy Radio makes a statement regarding the Bush blacklist of dozens of citizens from a Fargo, North Dakota speech.

Producer from the Ed Schultz Show is on that list apparently. For those of you who listen to Air America, know Ed Schultz, Progressive radio host. BushCo can't take the heat, even in Fargo, ND!

Rumsfeld Says He Offered to Resign Twice

So what he is saying is that it is Bush to blame? I sense some irony here. I also feel pity for him. It is a sad state of affairs in BushCo land - the cracks beginning to shear. So if Rumsfeld is to blame, why did he not just leave? He is a coward saying that is was Bush who asked him to stay. If you don't like your employer, you leave, right? No one forces you to stay. Unless, of course, they offer you more money that you could possibly dream of or they blackmail you. Which one is farther from the truth?
