The Left's Media Miscalculation

Parry does a good job at dissecting US Media and how it made the "shift" from Left to Right. He claims that the Left neglected the media for other forms of organizing, while the Right embraced and created right-wing media, while whittling away at investigative journalism. Right true. But, it usually comes down to money. Parry talks about that too, along with a detailed history that is informative and hard-hitting.

The Left doesn't seem to get it, I guess. Parry doesn't advocate (nor do I) emulating the BS tactics that BushCo employs, but strongly suggests liberals work on their media investment. You figure we would learn from Vietnam, even now that Jane Fonda is on a hard hitting PR tour to debunk the radical right's claims that she willing posed for that anti-aircraft photo way back when some 30 years ago.

So read this piece; it will certainly explain some shortcomings and reasons why the day the Left was won is a long time coming... "The hard truth for the Left is that the media imbalance in the United States could very easily get much worse. The difficult answer for the progressive community is to come to grips with this major strategic weakness, apply the Left’s organizing talents, and finally make a balanced national media a top priority."

Americans Oppose Senate Rule Changes, Poll Shows

The momentum is beginning. BushCo is close to that line, that if crossed, could prove damaging to their candidates in 2006. It is time for these radical right-wingers to be checked. We need balance in order to sustain a working government. It may not be perfect, but it is who we are... We cannot deny it.

The Oblivious Right: "It all makes you wonder how these people ever ended up running the country in the first place."

Krugman weighes in... The "Bush Boom" is a fantasy and Americans are getting more uneasy to the radical religious right dictating economics and politics.

Conservative jihadists seek to erode liberty

Cynthia Tucker is a little more, well, up front out it.

Pondering the false gods...

Politicians are pushing partisan politics into churches and cheapening religion in the process.

Filibuster THIS!

And so it begins... The 2nd War?

Led by a radical arm of the Right Wing, the showdown between church and state, Left and Right is about to come to fruition. There has been a lot of rumbling from Frist and DeLay, who have been receiving pressure from radical Christians. Frist has been increasingly catering to religious fundamentalists and will, what Joe Conason of the NY Observer says, advance the ideology that ""Conservatism" is becoming a radical ideology that discards constitutional balances for the pursuit of unchecked power." This use of "piety for profit" is disturbing indeed. It will take center stage at an upcoming Mega-church event in Louisville Kentucky call "Justice Sunday." Hijacked, no less, by right wing evangelists from its actual roots, Social Justice Sunday. Its past focus was real issues - poverty, homelessness and equality. Now it will a soapbox for Dobson, Perkins, and their merry band of christo-fascist GOPsters as they goat BushCo into "religitizing" the Judiciary. It is already working...

In related news: Two Evangelicals have a conversation about striping the Courts' funds. It was taped and well, frankly, represents how extreme these fascists are willing to move. Hmmm...

I am at a loss here and I am not trying to be naive or condescending here, but what's going on? How can this be possible? You have a party that is in one of its most powerful roles in quite a long time and just not satisfied. BushCo has the chance to set the record straight; to let Americans know they are a party that will represent and protect us. But, they are just mesmerized by the possibility of absolute power. So they infiltrate every little check and balance and destroy it. Soon, there will be no more protection for anyone - not just minorities, unions, women, and gays, but liberals and conservatives alike.

The Filibuster is an important piece to the Constitutional puzzle. It provides a check and balance against ANY abuse of power. Period. If BushCo changes the rules, they are effectively altering the Constitutional language and overthrowing a branch of the US Government. This is not what the Founders wanted and, if anything, would encourage a resistance to this type of nonsense. Why? America is not barbaric. We create a rule of law that was initiated and voted by the People. Our Legislators bring these initiatives before our governing bodies and decide what stays and what goes. The Judiciary decides if it follows the rule of law and interprets it to the best of its ability in all fairness and with the People's concerns in mind. This has worked for hundreds of years and has made us a fair and just society. BushCo does not represent that and never will. Religious folks ought to see that and trust their value networks and look to their word to know that our type of Democratic society protects them and their beliefs. We all know that the all the power should never belong in the hands of the rich and the few...

Fascists marching along...

This is the year of the "ators," making it almost a German Trifecta.

First the Govenator, who apparently hates teachers, nurses, civil servants, and, ummmm, immigrants. Arnie is being protested everywhere he goes - New York, DC, and, of course, San Francisco.

Then the Popenator, who apparently was a member of the Hitler youth. Lovely. Some thoughts for Benedict to consider, given the times. We can only pray.

Finally, the Boltonator, who apparently hates the UN, even as he is being considered for AS Ambassador to the UN? However, there are signs of life on the opposition front: The confirmation is delayed. Thank Dems? No, no. Thank Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio.

The resistance to this neo-fascism is growing. It seems that these leaders, all around the world, just will not face another Nazi Germany. Period.

Berlusconi Refuses to Quit

Taking a cue from BushCo, Silvio decides to dig in, even as his coalition is in crisis and his fellow Italians disagree with him on just about every issue. Sounds familiar? Following in the footsteps of fascist Mussolini? Corporate plunderer, Murdock lackey, or dictator? You decide...

President's Job Ratings Fall to Lowest Point of His Presidency

The pain is showing too. BushCo cannot make up it mind on DeLay. Frist is acting irrational. Moderate Repubs are non-existant. Now is the time for Democrats to speak up. Where are they? They poll numbers are in the dumps and not because they are idiots and out of step. It is because they are not doing a damn thing. What will it take? Now is the time. Right now.

Italy's Berlusconi to Resign

Yep, the coalition of the dwindling. Berlusconi's party got sweeped in recent regional elections. I guess it really pays to listen to his contituency - some 80% of Italians were against the invasion of Iraq, but Silvio stuck with BushCo. Is this a sign of cracks in the empire, or another distraction? We shall see..

Finally back from Seminar Hell...

Bushes in the hood

"After plummeting during the 1990s, gang violence is making a bloody comeback all across America... And how has our tough-on-security president responded? By proposing to cut close to a billion dollars from programs designed to help anti-gang efforts. His 2006 budget would cut more than $412 million from education, after-school and family-support programs that help keep at-risk kids away from gangs."

Enough said...

Arctic Refuge Land Grab

Interesting map of the 2,000 acres allocated by Congress and proponents of drilling. It is amazing how the wool is pulled over our eyes. Myth becomes fact and fact becomes myth. BushCo gets what it wants, environment be damned...

Analysis points to election `corruption': "There's a one-in-959,000 chance that exit polls could have been so wrong in predicting the outcome of the 2004 presidential election"

We are not talking Ukraine either...

Souring on DeLay in Sugarland

It is about time. DeLay really hurt himself with the Schiavo case. We need to continue applying pressure. Check out True Majority for action... Tom DeLay's Corruption Disqualifies Him from Leadership

Papal Legacy: Questioning Capitalism

Marcin Król, a fellow Pol, analyzes Pope John Paul’s progressive policies and what it means to the future of Christianity. By no means does this gloss over the fact that the Pope was not conservative socially, but he did make strides against the seemingly indestructible and stubborn Catholic Church.

May he rest in peace...

No Blame. All Game. A tale of brief intelligence...

The report of a president's Commission on Weapons of Mass Destruction comes out bad for BushCo. But who is to blame? The problem with the above statement is that there is no blame, unless you follow the old GOP standby: Blame Bill Clinton. Figures.

Op/Ed columns and new analysis stories all have their questions, and rightly so. Somebody has to pay the piper for being "dead wrong" on WMDs.

USA Today ponders: What the report didn't say...: "The report didn't attempt to connect the intelligence failures to the fateful decision they encouraged: to go to war on what proved to be false grounds."

The NY Times analysis: A Final Verdict on Prewar Intelligence Is Still Elusive

The International Herald Tribune states: U.S. blind to nuclear dangers, report says

The Washington Post asks: Who Gets Held to Account?

Good question. The point is that those who commit the gravest of errors get medals while falling down on the job. Some slam dunk. What intelligence? We can blame an elusive and abstract group like "the intelligence community" or we could not blame anyone at all. In the meantime, people are dying with no end in sight. Where I come from, if somebody lies about something and another person is hurt or dies, then the liar is held accountable as an accessory. Am I right?
