Now is the time...

The worst kind of compassion conservativism showed up in response to cartoonist C. Padow's Performance Review strip recently. It reads like a O'Reilly script and is flat out disrespectful to those National Guardsmen deployed in Iraq. Here is an excerpt:

"So what?s the big deal? Most of them were only National Guard weekend, wannabe soldiers anyway who joined the Guards to play soldiers and bleed beer money out of the taxpayers. They made their bed, so why should their close relatives cry when things turned a little sour, and they didn?t get recognized as great patriotic heros for dying for their country with personal letters from our President. Don?t those leftist realize our President and Secretary of Defense have more important God ordained things do to than to sign a piddly letter of sympathy?:

WOW!?!

Senator Kennedy offers a powerful and blistering speech at Johns' Hopkins on what we should do with the Iraq quagmire. Wow. The Dems are finally starting to chip away at the BushCo stone. Kennedy reminds Americans of what patriotism really stands for - not this hijacked version the Bush Administration is giving us...

Diebold Announces Paper Trail for Voters

The nerve of these folks! After Diebold's CEO made that comment about "giving Ohio" to Bush in 2004, he figures his job is done now the Bush has been reelected. The important thing to remember here is the EVERY other electronic component the Diebold produces - be it ATM machines, security systems, or med-dispensing machines - has a paper trial or receipt. Good enough for business, but not good enough for people. Some company.

And, by the way, the county where Diebold's HQ is located - Stark County - went blue. It is a shame that the company does not agree with its employee base. It's also a shame that voting machines belong to the private sector and NOT the public. No one should make money off of a person's right to vote... Nobody.

Relief after Pentagon official resigns

Neocon cometh and neocon taketh away...

Interesting clip on The Daily Show with John Stewart... Jim Wallis, author of God's Politics discusses the religious landscape and how its high time to make politicians accountable to the real religious values the Right wing gets wrong and the Left doesn't understand.

Schwarzenegger loses support of California Democrats

And others, as well... The telling information here is that Arnie's insistence that he will not fall into the typical California Governor's trap - that of losing sight of the power of California voters and not listening to there needs, only to suffer the consequences later - was simply the usual political ruse.

California Democrats and Independents have been trying very hard to accept and work with Schwarzenegger by attempting to give a little on some issues. Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, can't seem to even make the attempt to try.

Here we go again. How could we even think that the Armstrong Williams incident with the Education Department was an isolated incident?!?

Senate Roll Call on Rice Nomination

Most Dems just don't feel secure in their posts I guess. You would figure that the Senators of the great state of New York, whose contituents voted against BushCo would step up and start the ball rolling? But, you would figure wrong. Given the recent history of Dems in elections, mabe listening to your voters would actually help get you reelected. But, I digress into utopian thoughts...

Democrats call Rice a liar and a Bush apologist

The Dems are finally fighting back. It is about time. It is important the Rice and others be called out for how they have acted. Nobody disputes his or her intelligence. But it is one's performance that qualifies one for a job - ANYWHERE in the US. BushCo nominees should be held to that same standard. If you lie about your reasons for doing something, especially to find out later those reasons could cost people their lives, you pay the price and take responsibility. Period.

The CSI Monitor gives us an update on the reaction from the world to Bush's Inaugural Speech. It doesn’t look good. But, what did we expect, anyway? It is not like BushCo has actually followed through with anything short of their personal agenda. Let's get realistic though for one moment. We really cannot believe anything this administration says. Just ask Condi Rice - they always react with personal attacks.

Given the history of tyrannical nations, the world won't give in lightly to aggressive and ideological agenda. The American Republicans don't quite know how the world works outside their own suburban shell (save the few moderates like McCain, Specter, and others). Once they try to "fundamentalize" another country, they will nothing but resistance. They won't have France to blame either...

World media: Bush inaugural a jolt

Boxer for President

The calls are already starting. You figure this will be the litmus test for other Dems to speak up and speak their minds. Maybe their constituents will have better respect for them if they do their jobs? (Rather than kick them out for ineffectiveness...)

Well?

Math anyone? Condi needs to understand the problem more before stepping in line with BushCo. Because, as Maureen Dowd and the rest of us already know, they Don't Know Much About Algebra

According to the UK Guardian, the World fears new Bush era. 74% of those polled considered Bush to have a negative impact on peace & security. Of the remaining 26%, Tony Blair is one of them. His response? "Evolution comes from experience."

Oh, you don't say?

"My optimism begins with the cry: 'TGIFB' or Thank God It's Finally Begun."

Another Mark Morford installment...

Ho Hum, More War And Death / What happens when habitual warmongering and BushCo lies become part of our daily diet?

Rice Still Doesn't Get It

If every Senator followed Sen Boxer's line of questioning, we might actually get some truth out of BushCo. It is hard to believe, but not hard to understand...

Time to get back in the game. But first, we need to discuss the importance of Wiring the Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy. From Matt Bai of the NY Times.
