"It feels like Groundhog Day..."
- Jerry Springer on the radio this morning regarding Press Secretary Scott McClellan continued rapid repetitive response to reporters' questions on what Bush will do to Karl Rove. He has made an art of the dodge and never answers directly. He takes the long way around, and by the time we get back, we are lost. His backtracking on this CIA leak and now Rove – from attack or “deal with that person” to silence, to “confidence” is not helping anybody.
McClellan, of course, "appreciates" the questions, and makes no mention as to why this has become such a pressing issue. He places no blame and mentions no responsibility. He leaves that to the radical extremist right wing talking heads and GOP front men. Who is to blame? Well, let's see - liberals? Right. And MoveOn, and John Kerry, and Howard Dean, and Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton? They must be thinking of 2008. Some are saying he did it for political reasons and not intentionally. It does not matter - he still put the lives of American soldiers in danger and compromised national security. All to get back at Joe Wilson's now to be true intelligence account from Niger. That is the lowest of the lows. With all the vast power and political might that Rove has, he resorts to the lowest denominator to play politics? Pathetic. The playground rules have changed.
Kurtz of The Washington Post appreciatesthe response to the Rove issue. Before he goes off on the liberal response, Freedom of the Press, and Anne Lamott, he comments on right-wing comments: "So the response is that 1) the Dems are playing politics (and Rove wasn't, in dragging in Mrs. Joe Wilson?). And 2) Rove was just performing a public service by steering a reporter away from a false story. (Actually, Wilson was right about the bogus Niger uranium tale, and the White House was wrong, although his credibility did take a hit from a critical Senate intelligence committee report.)" Right you are Howard. But what does it all mean?
This is despicable. Truly. Michael Isikoff, recently of Guantanamo abuse of Koran fame (which we now know to be relatively true, set in motion a series of events that leads right to Bush's Brain. The whole affair is sickening. Time's Cooper has compromised his career. New York Times' Miller is in jail. Robert Novak is still spewing crap, with no mention of his fate.
Slate exclaims: Turd Blossom Must Go. “… I gather that Rove is on shaky ground, but that his firing or resignation is not imminent.” Sure, but in this case, the shakeup begins at the top. Rove's actions are treasonous and the least that Bush should do is fire him. Would it make a difference, since Rove and him are bestest buds? With this Administration - probably not. But the record will show that Mr. Rove endangered America for purely political reasons. America is above that. Should we not take the moral and legal responsibility here? Is that not what makes American Democracy thrive?
Many questions, never any answers, Scott...
